What is the direction for "The Institute"?

Our main research focus is to develop the area of sports analytics for hockey.  Sports analytics applied to hockey is a relatively untouched area that is open for applied research.

What research initiatives have "The Institute" completed?

We assess the various inputs to winning in the National Hockey League.  Since many of the statistics that are traditionally used in professional hockey do not accurately reflect the underlying process, we use economics and statistics to place a value on the inputs that contribute to winning.  The model can be used by management for player personnel decisions by comparing individual players’ relative contribution to winning and by coaches for game strategy decisions.
